Parking: There are car parks on the Quay and in Holman Way. Metered parking is also available in Holman Way. There is no public parking in the Strand.
Access to the Building: There is a slight incline along the path from the gate to the main visitors’ entrance. There are no steps.
Wheelchair access: The gardens and parts of the Museum are accessible. Regretfully, in this old and listed building, three rooms on the first floor of the Merchants House cannot be accessed by wheelchair users. Access to the ground floor may be available using a portable ramp (on request).
Lift to the Sail Loft: In the case of breakdown, emergency evacuation etc, please note that there is no alternative other than the stairs. Visitors should not use the lift unless they can get down the stairs (with help if needed).
Stairs: there are two short steep sets of stairs in the Merchant’s House and a main staircase from the first floor to the ground floor.
Toilets: A disabled access toilet is available, although there may not be sufficient space to manoeuvre a large wheelchair.
Other Information:
Assistance dogs are allowed in the building. Other dogs are welcome to wait outside. There’s always a bowl of water by the main door.
