Dorothy Holman: A Lady of Determination & Vision

Dorothy Holman bought 25 Strand in 1938 and during the war she housed evacuees. After the war she started a youth club in the sail loft which ran for 20 years! In 1967 she decided she was ‘too old and tired’ to continue with the youth club so repurposed the sail loft as a small local museum. The story of Topsham Museum begins with this remarkable lady’s determination and vision. When Miss Holman died in 1983, she expressed a wish that ‘my home will always be the museum for Topsham’. You can find out more about this wonderful lady by visiting the Museum when it’s open again or reading the new guidebook available online:…/new_publications/
