Lunchtime Lecture: The River Exe Over Time

28 May 2019, The River Exe over time
by Jenny Bennett

Lunchtime Lecture by Jenny Bennett. Jenny was brought up in Devon, but worked in public libraries in the Home Counties for over 25 years. After obtaining an Open University degree in Geology and Chemistry Jenny worked part time as an OU tutor in Geology and in 2000 took the plunge to study full time. Jenny is particularly interested in more recent geological history and in rivers and in 2006 completed a PhD at the University of Exeter on the evolution of the Exe valley.

Jenny’s lecture will show how the Exe has changed over geological time and how combining the geological evidence with archaeological and historical material, such as older maps, has added to our knowledge of the river’s behaviour. Predicting future river behaviour can be helped by knowing what has happened in the past.

The doors open at 10.45, coffee is available before the lecture which starts at 11.30 or earlier if full.  A light lunch is also available afterwards. The lectures are free and very popular so do arrive early to ensure entry.
